Former N.C. GOP leader to open new apparel shop at Raleigh's Five Points
Former North Carolina Republican Party chairman Claude Pope Jr. and several of his family members have pooled their resources to launch an apparel company that will soon be expanding beyond its roots at Bald Head Island.
Bald Head Blues, which launched in April 2014, will soon be opening its first off-island retail location at 2003-B Fairview Road in Raleigh, in the heart of the historic Hayes Barton neighborhood. The store opens Oct. 1.
Bald Head Blues will carry the company's custom-branded resort wear, along with Raleigh-based brands Olly Oxen and Native, as well as other makers of island-style apparel, leader goods and jewelry.
The company was founded by Claude Pope III of Raleigh. Co-founders are Melissa and Claude Pope Jr., who now live full-time at Bald Head Island.
